The 11th International Falcon Festival ‘Marmi Championship’, held under the patronage of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, will be held from this January 1, 2020. It's considered as one of the best tourist attractions of the season and will go on until the 1st of February.
The festival, being held at Sabkat Marmi in Sealine will be attended by falconers from Qatar and Kuwait. The registration for the championship is closed after a record turnout of falconers, including 40 from Kuwait.
Held under the patronage of H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, the festival is aimed at promoting the preservation of wildlife, protection of falcons and maintaining falconry as an important aspect of Qatari tradition passed from one generation to another. Considered one of the largest in the region, the festival also aims to promote excellence in falconry and hunting as well as the sharing of experiences among falconers in the region. Having attracted more than 1,500 local and international participants and hundreds of visitors, the previous edition of the festival was the biggest and most exciting and was covered by local and international media outlets.
Ali bin Khatam al-Muhshadi, chairman of Qatar Al Gannas Society and chairman of the organising committee stated that the participants must bring along all the supporting documents that have been approved by the organising committee to participate in the various competitions of the festival, stressing that registration will not be approved remotely, either by communication or via electronic means of communication.
Huge screens and sophisticated cameras will allow the audience to have the best views of the competition. This year’s venue has been equipped with more facilities such as family areas and health and entertainment facilities. A lot of surprises are in store for visitors at the festival including gifts and prizes which will be given through raffle draws. There will also be a special day allocated to honour the senior falconers.
