Qatar Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has announced the closure of vegetable and fruit section in three food outlets, namely Marza Hypermarket, Family Food Centre and Abu Khalifa Trading, at Hazm Al Markhiya, Lusail and Old Airport.

This is due to over violation of Article (7) of Law (8) of 2008 on consumer protection. The violations consisted of displaying products that included misleading data by changing the country of origin for some products, and mixing products of different quality with the aim of selling them at a higher price, which is considered a violation of consumers’ rights. The closure period was three days for each outlet, from February 7.

The ministry stressed it would not tolerate any negligence in terms of meeting obligations stipulated in Law No. (8) of 2008 on Consumer Protection and its executive bylaws.

The measure comes as part of the intensive inspection campaigns carried out by the ministry to monitor markets and commercial activities in Qatar, aiming at controlling prices and uncovering abuses and fraudulent, counterfeit and non-conforming goods.

The ministry said it is working to intensify its inspection campaigns to control violating practices and to refer violators of laws and Ministerial decisions to the competent authorities to take due measures.

The ministry has urged all citizens and residents to report any violations through the following channels: Call Centre: 16001; Social media accounts: Twitter @MOCIQATAR, Instagram MOCIQATAR.
