Amir participates Commonwealth Heads of Govt meeting

HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani participated in the opening session of the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Kigali, in the friendly Republic of Rwanda, held under the slogan 'Delivering A Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming' at Kigali Convention Center this morning.

A number of Their Excellencies, leaders of countries, heads of government and official delegations participated in the session, as well as members of the official delegation accompanying HH the Amir.

President of the Republic of Rwanda Paul Kagame said that the State of Qatar, under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, is at the forefront of finding solutions to some of the most urgent challenges of the day, from energy security to humanitarian response in the Middle East and the global fight against corruption.

Kagame added, in his speech in front of the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Kigali, that he could not have thought in a better person rather than His Highness the Amir to invite as a very special guest of the Commonwealth meeting. He said that "His Highness the Amir is a friend and a partner to so many of us, and his country has deep historical ties to the Commonwealth".

Kagame said, "the Commonwealth does not replace other institutions. It adds to them and that is why we always have special important guests with us. Let me recognize in particular His Highness the Amir of Qatar."
