Talabat, the region’s leading tech platform, with the support of charity partners across Qatar, including Qatar Charity (QC), Education Above All (EAA), Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) and Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), collected over QR4.3 million through its app-based donation channels in 2022, in addition to facilitating the donation of more than 100,000 meals in the same year.
Talabat has been supporting charities for several years in Qatar, beginning with its longest standing partner Qatar Charity since December 2019, which was the first ever virtual charity partnership in Qatar and the first charity across talabat markets to go live.
Commenting on the achievement, Francisco Miguel De Sousa, managing director of talabat Qatar, said: “We are deeply grateful to our customers, charity partners and teams for continuously supporting us in our mission to give back to the community. This generosity is a reflection of the ethos of the country and its people in prioritising selfless giving and community well-being. As the leading local tech platform and the first food delivery app in Qatar to incorporate virtual charitable donations into its product, we have been continually looking into ways in which we can help our customers to make a difference and positively impact the lives of others through various charity-centred endeavours.”
Early last year, the company also tied up with Qatar Red Crescent Society to support various QRCS-led charitable initiatives through its #TechForGood programme. Under this three-month collaboration, more than QR600,000 was raised, with QR370,000 of this taking place during the Holy Month of Ramadan alone.
Talabat Qatar teamed up with Qatar Charity to launch the #TechForGood campaign during Ramadan, raising an estimated total of QR400,000 in just one month.
Later in 2022, talabat worked with Education Above All on a back-to-school campaign themed ‘Be the Change.’ With the aim to increase access to quality education for underprivileged children, the campaign saw talabat Qatar donate QR1 to EAA each time customers ordered from select restaurants on the app.
Talabat also gave away several items from talabat Mart to students from disadvantaged backgrounds at Al Salam schools in Doha. To play its part in advancing breast cancer awareness, talabat rolled out its Pinktober campaign jointly with Qatar Cancer Society, selling pink cancer pins on talabat Mart. The Pinktober campaign recorded more than QR52,000 in charitable funds, and all proceeds were given to QCS.
Talabat customers can donate to Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Charity, Qatar Cancer Society and Education Above All on various denominations using the app. Customers can download the talabat application through the iOS App Store, Google Play Store and Huawei App Gallery.
