Qatar will hold a long-delayed election for its consultative Shura Council next year.

Shura Council polls will be held in 2021, the emirate’s ruler Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has said.
The election of the advisory body was originally set for 2007 but has been repeatedly delayed
Tamim told the Shura Council: “We are taking an important step for consolidating traditions of Qatari
Shura to develop the legislative process with wider participation from citizens.”
In the election, set for next October, voters will elect 30 members of the 45-strong council. The emir will appoint 15 others. All of them were previously appointed by the emir.
