The 50 percent attendance rate applies to many employees in the school whose nature of work does not require them to be present on a daily basis. However, teachers are required to come to schools to provide online lessons is to ensure that they have an ideal environment to teach the lessons, a senior Ministry of Education and Higher Education has said.

Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, told Qatar TV, “ the nature of the teacher's work requires his/her presence in the school. The reason for this is to ensure that all factors giving the lesson are appropriately prepared. Such as a smart board, prepared halls, and pure sound for communicating with students, and all these things create the ideal environment for communicating with students in an ideal manner, which are difficult to find if the classes are given from home.”

He said the Cabinet gave the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and all other ministries the right to compel some employees to work full-time if needed.

This came in response to a question about the lack of commitment of the Ministry of Education to reduce the number of employees to 50 percent.

He said the ministry had reduced the working hours of teachers and also cut down the duration of class times so that many of the burdens on teachers' shoulders were reduced in order to help them provide excellent content during the three hours they spend in school.
