New Indian university receives first batch of students

The first Indian university in Qatar, a campus of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) which commenced its virtual classes last month received first batch of students at the university campus on October 17.

The university is situated at Barwa Commercial Avenue on Industrial Area road at Ain Khalid.
University’s Doha campus, having a capacity of 660 students, will offer four-year degree programmes in Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Business Administration.

MIE-SPPU President Hassan Chougule said, “We are extremely happy to receive the first batch of students at the university campus this week. It is a dream come true for our dedicated team which worked day and night to witness this day.”

Chougule said Professor Dr Bimalendu B Nath has been appointed as Director (Principal) of MIE-SPPU Qatar while qualified and experienced professors, deputed/selected by the SPPU, are teaching at the first offshore international campus of the SPPU in Qatar.

“We have decided to set up university campus because there were not many affordable options for higher education for students in Qatar. On an average, universities in Qatar are charging QR 25,000 per semester which is unaffordable for majority of the parents. We first decided to start with QR: 30,000 per year but later reduced by QR: 2,000. Currently, our fees is QR: 28,000, QR: 30,000 and QR: 34,000 according to the academic programme,” remarked Chougule while adding that the university will provide bus shuttle service between campus and nearest Free Zone metro station.
