New panel to explore curbs on wedding expenses

The Shura Council held Monday its regular weekly meeting, under the chairmanship of HE Speaker of the Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim.

The Council touched on the issue of the negative aspects associated with marriage, based on a request for general discussion submitted by a number of members.

HE Speaker of the Council affirmed the importance of discussing this issue, as the huge sums spent on wedding occasions have become a burden on Qatari families, unlike the situation of the fathers and grandfathers in the recent past, whose lives were simple and their occasions were characterized with convergence and compassion, not with bragging and ostentation.

In this context, a number of members discussed the topic and explained the exaggerated manifestations of the various celebrations and overspending, and provided a number of proposals and solutions to curb such phenomena.

After extensive discussions, the Council decided to form a temporary special committee to study these phenomena and develop controls and proposals to avoid and limit them.
