The ATP tour season opener takes place in Doha with the Qatar ExxonMobil Open, one of two ATP Tour events held in the Middle East.
Voted as the best among the ATP 250s last year, the Qatar Open's entry list in 2020 features 28 players including three-time Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka, who will be the top seed. Despite being overshadowed by the inaugural edition of the brand-new team tournament ATP Cup, there will be no shortage of star power in Qatar's capital.
Wawrinka will open against either Frenchman Jeremy Chardy (he owns a 6-0 record against him) or a qualifier in the second round, and potentially face Adrian Mannarino in the quarterfinals.
Other players expected to feature at the event include 2013 champion Richard Gasquet, 2018 finalist Andrey Rublev, 2016 Wimbledon finalist Milos Raonic, Former champion (2012) and 3rd seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France and Doha-resident Fernando Verdasco, the 2009 Australian Open semi-finalist and finalist at the 2010 Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters.
In all, 21 players made the entry list for the singles event of the annual ATP World Tour 250 series tournament with three slots allotted for wild card entrants and four for qualifiers while 16 teams are taking part in the doubles event.
Prize money on offer at the Qatar Open for 2020 is $1,325,000 which is a 0.9% increase on the 2019 prize pool.
