Entry to Qatar temporarily suspended to limit spread of Covid-19

People from certain nationalities are temporarily banned from entry into Qatar, as a preventive measure to limit the spread of the Coronavirus. The ban takes effect from 9th March, Monday. Among the banned nationalities are people from China, Bangladesh, India, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Nepal, Lebanon, Philippines, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Syria, and Thailand.

Apart from the announcement by the Qatar Airways regarding flights to and from Italy, entry to Qatar is temporarily suspended for all those intending to travel to and from the above-said countries, as of Monday, the Government Communications Office (GCO) said.

The GCO, in its statement on Sunday mentioned that the initiative is inline with Qatar's efforts to take all necessary preventive measures to limit the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) worldwide.

The decision is likely to affect every one planning to enter the country from these countries, including normal visa-on-arrival, those with residence or work permit, and temporary visitors.

Furthermore, Qatar has urged all its residents and nationals to avoid travel completely, and keep only essential travel during this time.

Qatar, in its statement also said that the precautionary measures may be subjected to more updates on the basis of latest guidance by the National Health Authorities and other international organizations regarding spread of the coronavirus, for the safety of all residents in Qatar.
