As part of Qatar Sustainability Week 2020, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment in Qatar launched Al Wakra Walkway, an environmentally sustainable walkway.
The launch coincides with the accession of Al Wakra to the membership of UNESCO, Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC).

Al Wakra Municipality’s Omar al-Jaber said that the inauguration is inline with environmental sustainability, as only eco-friendly materials were used in lighting, while recycled materials and plants were used to create the walkway and seats.
The 350m stretch of walkway has environmentally-friendly materials being used in all stages of construction, inline with the proposed idea for Qatar Sustainability Week.
The Al Wakra Municipality, represented by Public Parks Department is keen to use solar lighting in many of its facilities, including Al Wakra Family Beach and Public Beach.
