Qatar eases restrictions on restaurants and cafes

In line with the earlier decisions and measures aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19, and to protect the health and safety of nationals and residents, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has now issued a fresh Circular No.22 of 2020 aimed at easing restrictions on the activities of restaurants and cafes.

Restaurants and Cafes (coffee shops) have been allowed to resume deliveries and handing over orders to customers outside the business place.

The Ministry said that cafes and restaurants located in malls are exempted from this decision and are allowed to process only delivery orders.

The ministry further said that exempted outlets are barred from taking orders and doing deliveries both within and outside the workplace.

Inline with the circular, all cafes and restaurants are requested to fully abide by the policies of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Administrative Development, Ministry of Public Health, Labour and Social Affairs, regarding measures that need to be taken in the workplace and staff housing, to protect employees and contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Any violation or breach in this regard, will subject perpetrators to legal accountability, and the concerned authority needs to ensure its implementation and apply its provisions, the Ministry warned.

The Ministry will further intensify its inspection campaigns to ensure the compliance of concerned parties with their obligations, in-line with this decision.

The decision was issued on 12th May 2020, and is subject to amendments / updates as per latest developments in this matter.
