While the contact tracing app Ehteraz is made compulsory for residents in Qatar, several shopping complexes in Qatar are now checking the app status before permitting visitors into their premises. Only visitors with green colour code are being allowed entry.
Some supermarkets like Monoprix, Al Meera, Carrefour, LuLu and Safari hypermarkets are some of the supermarkets that have put up messages on their social media pages informing customers that Ehteraz green tag is necessary to access the store.
For instance, Al Meera in its status showed that green code (healthy) will only be permitted entry, while others with grey (suspected), yellow (quarantined) or red (confirmed) code will not be permitted inside for shopping.
More supermarkets, including Saudia Hyper, Family Food Centre, Rawabi and Grand Mall also confirmed that they are implementing the green status rule for entrance.
This move has been welcomed by residents as they hoped that it would make shopping a stress-free experience as people will be more careful when disobeying quarantine rules.
Meanwhile, people on business and visit visa have said that they are unable to activate the Ehteraz app as it needs a QID for the same. The updated version of the app with these options is not yet available.
However, some leading hypermarkets are said to be allowing entry if a visa copy is produced at the entrance, while others are strictly following the Ehteraz app only.
