Qatar to close shops and suspend commercial activities until 30th May

The Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, chaired the Cabinet meeting this evening, and decided to close all shops and suspend all commercial activities from 19th to 30th May.

The closure, however, does not include food and catering shops, pharmacies and restaurants that do deliveries.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry will determine the other necessary activities exempted from this decision.

The Cabinet also said that nationals and residents are obligated to install the EHTERAZ app on their smartphones when leaving home for any reason. This decision is effective from 22nd May until further notice.

The other rules that were decided are that not more than two persons are allowed to travel in a vehicle. If travelling in a taxi or limousine, or if travelling in a private vehicle driven by the family driver, three people are allowed. Ambulance and vehicles belonging to Ministry of Public Health, Security and military authorities are excluded.

Decisions regarding reducing passenger capacity in buses by half, and taking all precautionary measures into account were discussed.

Practice of any sport shall be in areas that are in proximity to residence area, to avoid gatherings during exercise and maintain safe distance and wearing masks.

In case of non-compliance to these decisions, penalties stipulated in Decree Law No.17 for the year 1990 regarding prevention of infectious diseases shall be applicable to the violator, which includes imprisonment for a period of not more than three years and a fine not exceeding QR200,000 or one of the two penalties.
