Qatar has confirmed that it would host the 2021 Men’s and Women’s Asian Table Tennis Championships, due to be held in September 2021.
The Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA) announced this decision after China and India withdrew from the bidding race.
This will be the second time that Qatar will be hosting the competition, after its hosting debut in 2000.
“We will have the honour to host the best players in the region, especially the ones from East Asian Countries like China, India, Japan, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei and South Korea,” said Khalil bin Ahmed Al Mohannadi, President of QTTA and the Arab Table Tennis Federation.
“It will be like a mini-world championship. We are very happy with the honour that the State of Qatar has been chosen as the hosts for the second time. I thank the members of the General Assembly for choosing us after China and India quit the race,” said Al Mohannadi.
Doha has played host to the Qatar Open Table Tennis event for more than two decades.
“I thank the members of the General Assembly for choosing us after China and India quit the race,” said Al Mohannadi. He further said that it would be an opportunity for Qatar to host another world-class event, given, the world-class infrastructure in Qatar.
