The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has encouraged people over 60 years of age to call the dedicated hotline number 40277077 to book an appointment and get vaccinated against Covid-19. The hotline is open from 7am to 11pm.
The Ministry pointed out the fact that people over the age of 60years are at considerably higher risk of severe complications due to Covid-19.
“Majority of Covid-19 ICU admissions are for people over the age of 60 years. A safe and effective vaccine is available to protect you. Join more than 200 million around the world who have safely taken the vaccine,” it said.
Recently, Qatar has noticed a gradual and consistent increase in the number of new Covid-19 infections per day, including hospital and ICU admission.
Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) recently activated a particular hotline number to enable people who are 60 years and above to book, schedule, cancel or pre-book vaccination appointments. This number is open only to the elderly priority group at present.
Dr. Mariam Abdul Malik, the Managing Director, PHCC said that this dedicated hotline number is being activated to prioritize those who are at risk of more severe complications from Covid-19.
This number is also expected to improve accessibility for people and encourage them to take up vaccination, as it provides flexibility in booking appointments.
The public can also register online if they wish to get the Covid-19 vaccination. Qatar has been administering Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines to people.
