24 September 2021

Tourists entering Qatar during World Cup 2022 may take one step closer to immersing themselves in local culture by renting a Qatari accommodation.

Discussions are in progress between Qatar Tourism and MME to include Qatari houses as an additional option for holiday accommodation for tourists, said Mansour Abdullah Al Mahmoud, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).

Speaking on the sideline of the Build Your House 2021 exhibition, which concluded at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), Al Mahmoud said that the Qatar Tourism is making fresh rules to permit Qatari people to rent out their houses to tourists on short-term basis.

A regulation regarding this would be made soon. Tourists also come for investments, and there will be Qatari people who would be willing to rent their homes for upcoming World Cup, he said.

On receiving approval, visitors to the World Cup may choose to stay in the Qatari homes, in addition to several other options including hotels, luxury campsites, onboard cruise ships and other regulated holiday homes.

Recently, Qatar Tourism had issued regulations regarding options of its ‘Holiday Homes’ in the country. Owners’ who rent their villas or apartments in tourist areas or standalone villas in other areas will have to apply for a licence, undergo a classification process to get their properties rented out to tourists from across the world for a short period not exceeding 30 days.

“We now feel that things are back to normal. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, we continued issuing building permits. And we see that construction and building permits are on an upward trend. Especially for the World Cup 2022 accommodations. Many projects like compounds and big buildings are being completed to be rented out to the World Cup visitors and fans. Also, building permits have been increasing steadily,” added Al Mahmoud.
