Hamad International Airport

The Doha International Airport was Qatar’s commercial airport, until the opening of the new ‘Hamad International Airport’ (HIA) on 30th April 2014. Doha International Airport suffered from overutilization and was expanded several times, before the opening of the new Hamad International Airport.

All airlines serving the Doha Airport have been moved to Hamad International Airport since 27th May 2014. The new Hamad International Airport is located 4kms east of Doha International Airport. It spans 2,200 hectares of land, and can handle 30 million passengers annually.
Facilities and Services at the airport:

Hamad International Airport has been designed to make your journey more comfortable and convincing.

Smoking rooms: HIA is strictly a non-smoking facility, and in order to offer a smoke-free environment for passengers at the airport, there are designated smoking rooms allocated throughout the passenger terminal that are fitted with smoke extractors and comfortable seating. 

ATMs: There are plenty of ATMs all through the passenger terminal, majority of which dispense cash in multiple currencies. They can be accessed at departure level too, both prior and post immigration, and at arrivals level before or after customs check point.

Foreign Exchange: At present six foreign exchange stores are located across the passenger terminal building, with our Foreign Exchange operator offering currency conversion of more than 40 plus currencies. The stores are located in departure check-in area, departures South Node, arrivals hall, arrivals baggage area, departure Concourse C, Departure North Node towards Concourse D.

Prayer Rooms: Spacious prayer rooms can be seen throughout the passenger terminal. They offer separate areas for men and women, including dedicated ablution facilities. When exiting the HIA, there is also a public mosque located just outside the passenger terminal at a walking distance from departures hall.

Hotels: For convenience, service desks representing a variety of hotels are available in a dedicated area of passenger terminal. Irrespective of whether you have made reservation in advance or plan to book on arrival, Qatar has a variety of hotels to suit your needs and preferences. You may check at the enquiry counter or use the airport map to find your way to the hotel service desk area located on the ground level near the Short Term Car Park. W Doha Hotel and Residencies is one of the first lifestyle hotel in Doha and the first W in Middle East.

Connectivity: At HIA, it is easy for you to stay connected with your friends, family and colleagues. Enjoy complimentary wireless internet access all throughout our passenger terminal. The desks are also available at the five activity nodes of the airport. Furthermore, you can call anywhere in the world by purchasing a prepaid calling card from Qatar Duty Free. The Telephone booths are located throughout the passenger terminal.

Child-friendly: HIA makes travelling with children and infants a much smoother process with interactive play areas and dedicated family-oriented facilities. Our activity nodes keep young travellers entertained, as there will be plenty of fun things to do and families would be comfortable. The airport also has over 500 baby strollers available all through the terminal. There are family toilets too at Hamad International Airport, so as to make it more comfortable for parent to accompany their child to the toilet to look after his/her needs.

Medical Emergency: Hamad International Airport has fully-equipped and well-staffed medical centres that are operational 24 hours daily, and respond swiftly when required. The passenger terminal has two medical centres, one in the Arrivals hall and the other in the Departures hall near the check-in area. Meet and Greet: Irrespective of whether you are arriving, departing or transferring, Al Maha Services makes your journey more enjoyable and smoother. Lost Property: The customer service team at the airport is always ready to help customers retrieve their lost items. The Lost Property Office here provides lost property registration, deals with inquiries and offers retrieval services for lost items in the Passenger Terminal Complex. 
Transport to and from the airport:

Hamad International Airport offers a wide variety of transport options, including limousine services.

Car Rental: HIA offers you a unique mix of car rental service providers who offer car leasing on all car models. Al Muftah, Europcar, AVIS-Venture Gulf, Hertz, Strong. Mustafawi, Budget Qatar, Al Mana Leasing Company, Sixt Rent A Car, Prestige Cars, Payless Car Rental, Nasser Bin Khaled and Sons, Platinum Rent A Car, and Pan Gulf Rent A Car are few car rental companies operating within the Airport.

Limousine: The airport also offers chauffeur-driven limousines, including luxury sedans and 7-seater vans that take you around Qatar from the airport. For pre-booking, you could call Mowasalat Limousine on +974 8005466.

TaxiKarwa Taxis are a flexible way to travel to and from HIA. The taxi pavilion, located at the left end of the Arrivals Hall at the airport makes it easy to hire and board your taxi.  You can choose between sedans and vans depending on your seating and luggage requirements. The taxi coordinators at the airport can assist you with loading your luggage or boarding your taxi.

Metro: The Metro Station at HIA offers frequent services to and from airport all seven days a week, and connects the airport to all major tourist, cultural and business districts of Doha. Car Parking: The airport offers covered and secured parking space, which should be pre-booked. The rates for short-term parking are QR116/day and for premium parking is QR280/day. The short-term car parks are located on either side of passenger terminal. It offers secured parking for upto 15 days with easy access to the terminal building via dedicated walkways. The premium car park is more accessible for passengers flying with Qatar Airways. It has most prominent location access to terminal. For more information, call +97433722601.

At the Airport:

To make your journey at the airport smoother, here’s what you could expect at the Airport:

Some visitors to Qatar require a visa, while nationals from over 80 countries may be allowed to enter Qatar visa-free. When travelling from Qatar, all expat residents and some visitors should submit exit permits. Hence, it is better to confirm these requirements before starting your journey.
Upon entering the airport if you have a valid e-gate card, then you may directly proceed to the e-gate area located to the right of passport control area (for reference you may view the airport map given on the HIA website). Qatari nationals, expat resident in Qatar, or GCC nationals can apply for e-gate card by visiting Interior Ministry office in Al Gharafa, Doha.

If you are eligible for visa-on-arrival, please approach the immigration counter, present your passport, and pay your visa fee. The easy way to pay the visa fee is to use your credit card or debit card directly at the immigration counter. In case you wish to pay the fee in cash, you will have to visit a designated bank counter (refer map), before you approach the passport control counter. The bank will charge a fee for processing your cash payment. All major currencies are accepted here.

All Al Maha customers, special assistance travellers and unaccompanied minors are given priority processing upon arrival at Hamad International Airport.
At Hamad International Airport, transferring to your connecting flight is easy and simple. Once you exit your aircraft, you could go directly to the Transfer halls located at Councourses A, B, C and D.  HIA is an integrated facility, and hence passengers are able to Arrive, Transfer and Depart in the same building. You just have to follow the signs, use the airport map or enquire at the information desk to find your way.

As a Business Class or First-Class passenger, it would be easier to enter the Departure hall through Entry Gate 1. If necessary, you could also use the East short-term car park.

For Qatar Airways Privilege Club member, or a oneworld customer, your checkin counter will be located in row 3 and if necessary, you could use the West short-term car park. If you are flying as an Economy Class passenger with Qatar Airways, it will be easier to enter departure hall through Entry gates 2 and 3, and if flying with any other airline, it will be easiest if you enter departure hall through Entry Gate 4.

Baggage trolleys are available for free, and if you need help with your baggage, then porters are available at the airport for a fixed fee.
The airport follows all applicable Covid19 measures, including installation of hand sanitizers all around the terminals, regular sanitization of passenger touchpoints, luggage disinfection system, installing mobile disinfection robots, queuing barriers, floor stickers, Plexiglas shields, seating, smart screening helmets, thermal screening cameras, luggage screening, contactless payment, mask wearing implementation and much more.
