Doha Film Institute will screen Palme d’Or nominee - Yomeddine movie as a part of ‘Contemporary Releases’, a selection of the latest internationally and regionally acclaimed films this August. The series will include recent festival favourites, as well as the emerging new voices of DFI granted filmmakers.
After getting great reviews worldwide, and participating in several international festivals, A.B. Shawky’s Yomeddine is on its way for another screening in Doha. Abu Bakr Shawky’s comedy adventure ‘Yomeddine’ is a Palme d’Or nominee and winner of the François Chalais Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Yomeddine follows Beshay and Obama on an emotional journey across Egypt to search for what is left of their families.
Beshay, a man cured of leprosy has never left the leper colony where he has lived since childhood. After the death of his wife, he finally decides to go in search of his roots. With his paltry possessions strapped to a donkey cart and joined by Obama, the Nubian orphan, they travel across Egypt and confront the world with all its sorrows, its hardships and moments of grace, in his quest for family, belonging and a little humanity.
