Qatar announces the four-phase lockdown easing plan

Qatar will begin lifting coronavirus restrictions gradually in accordance with a four-phase plan from 15th June.

First phase – 15th June

Government spokesperson, Lolwa Rashed al-Khater said some Mosques will be allowed to reopen from 15th June, the first phase of reopening, while some stores in malls will be allowed to reopen, provided they meet certain conditions.

Few select parks will allow visitors for exercise. However, children below age of 12 will not be allowed to enter, she said.

Private health clinics can open with 40 percent capacity from 15th June. The capacity of clinics will be increased by 20 percent in every phase.

Second phase – 1st July

The second phase of easing lockdown will begin on 1st July, the third phase on 1st August and the fourth phase on 1st September.

The second phase will include partial opening of restaurants with limited capacity, malls with limited capacity and limited working hours.

This phase will also allow museums, markets, libraries and wholesale markets to open with limited capacity and specific work hours.

Third Phase – 1st August

The third phase will allow resumption of flights from low-risk countries for priority passengers including repatriation of residents. 

A total reopening of shopping malls, swimming pools, health clubs, can be expected. Salons and hairdressers can begin work with limited capacity.

Fourth Phase – 1st September

The fourth phase will permit business gatherings, wedding parties, exhibitions etc.

It will also include reopening of all museums, theatres, cinemas and libraries.

In total 1368 coronavirus cases were reported in Qatar, including three deaths yesterday, bringing the total to 70,158 cases and 57 deaths.
