Felix Sanchez to lead Qatar to 2022 World Cup

Felix Sanchez will be the coach of Qatar's national team through the 2022 world cup. Country's Football Association said that they extended his contract as head coach.

The association said that the reason behind the decision of contract was "to continue the technical stability of the national team, which won the AFC Asian Cup title in Jan-Feb this year."

Sanchez, 43, has spent many times in Qatar as a coach of Qatar's football team. He joined Aspire Academy in Qatar in 2006. In 2013 he became manager of the under-19 team. The under-19 team in his guidance won AFC Asian Cup in 2014.

Sanchez earlier guided the Qatar juniors and helping them win the 2014 AFC Under-20 Asian Cup in Myanmar. Further, the same squad qualified for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup held in New Zealand.

In January 2019, he replaced Jorge Fossati. The decision was taken by management as the team under Jorge Fossati failed to attempt to qualify for the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia.

Asian Cup 2019

Qatar defeated Japan in the final of Asian Cup in Abu Dhabi; it was the country's first major trophy. Qatar's win over four-time winners Japan concluded a month of perfection from Felix Sanchez's charges.

It was an extraordinary success; after all, the nation had not won a single Asian Cup on foreign soil since 1984. All the credit goes to players and Coach Felix Sanchez.

Addressing a press conference in Moscow, Infantino said the 2022 tournament will start from November 21 and continue till December 18. He further said that the football leagues around the world have been informed about the dates of the FIFA 2022.
