The Cabinet in Qatar yesterday approved the draft law which stipulates that residents and visitors to Qatar should obtain a health insurance to avail basic healthcare services in the country.
The Prime Minister and Minister of Interior in Qatar, HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al-Thani chaired the meeting at its seat at Amiri Diwan.
Thereafter, the Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Issa bin Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi said in its statement that the draft law aims to provide an integrated, high-quality efficient and sustainable health system through the following measures:
- Establish necessary policies, plans, systems and procedures to provide healthcare services in government and private health facilities.
- Determine the rights and duties of patients to consider when receiving healthcare services.
- Provide healthcare services to nationals in government health facilities free of cost.
- All visitors and residents to Qatar should obtain mandatory health insurance to receive basic healthcare services.
